Trip to Colorado Springs

I am posting photos that I took on our recent trip to Colorado Springs. We met our daughter and family there.  They had just been to Jack's brother's wedding in the Denver area. We did lots of fun stuff- bowling, hiking, swimming.

Colorado road trip

We recently returned from Colorado,  where we celebrated Dave' s sister's birthday in Colorado Springs. Part of the fun was the journey- we also were in Santa Fe, Durango, Telluride, etc. Here are a few random photos taken along the way. BTW this is my first attempt at blogging via my smart phone,  so forgive me if it is goofed up.

new prayer flags

I made three new prayer flags, all of which were presented to my sister-in-law, Marti for her birthday last week. This one is called "Organic."

We went all the way to Colorado to celebrate her birthday. This one is called "Nest," and was inspired by the two baby hummingbirds that were born in our atrium a few years back. If you look on my list of Labels on the right, you'll find lots of photos and stories about them. At one point I made a rubber "stamp" of the babies in the nest, and that was the starting point for this prayer flag.

This one is called "Equal."

artful tour of the southwest '10

I feel like I'm hardly ever home lately - we've just been on a 9-day trip to visit relatives in Colorado Springs. Most of the time was spent driving from here to there. Here are a few photos, chosen with an artful point of view.

This is a view of Santa Fe from our hotel room.

We love Durango and always stay at the funky Hotel Rochester B&B downtown.
These are the Helen Hunt Falls in Colorado Springs. Betcha didn't know Helen Hunt had her own waterfall!

An architectural detail seen at the historic Broadmoor hotel in Colorado Springs.

Downtown Telluride has lots of quaint shops and restaurants.. You can see Bridal Veil Falls in the background.

Although it was hot, we also spent some time on the creek trail close to downtown.

There were lots of photo opportunities in Moab, Utah. We drove through Arches National Park where we saw this balanced rock.

We saw several arches. Since it was 113 that day, we missed the arches that required major hiking.

This is called the Three Gossips. Look like anybody you know?

artful trip to colorado

Arrgh, I wish the photos would load in the order that I downloaded them. It's a pain in the neck trying to get them in the order that I would like. To heck with it - here's a hodge podge of photos from our trip to Colorado.

That's me at the top of the mountain when we took the gondola ride in Telluride. What a beautiful little town!
The raven is a gorgeous sculpture I saw in Park City, Utah.
The quilt is an update of my very first pattern, from 1994. It's called "Hidden Investments." The old quilt looked so dated, so I made this one. The pattern is available from Jukebox. They'll have a booth at this weekend's Rocky Mountain Quilt Festival in Loveland, Colorado. And the opportunity quilt from the show is from my pattern, "Heart Strings."

We saw this deer (or is it an elk?) in my father-in-law's neighborhood in Colorado Springs. He's shyly nibbling at the shrubbery.

The Stanley Hotel in Estes Park, as featured in "The Shining."

One day we went to Cripple Creek. The big casinos are moving in, but there are still remnants of the rustic old mining town.
