Fiber Festival in Central New York

I gather that some of you have been patiently been waiting for me to post some photos from our recent trip to NY and Boston. I also know that this might be ho hum for the rest of you, but anyway here goes. These photos were all taken at a fun little Fiber Festival in a town near my daughter's farm in central NY. Sorry, I forget the location! Anyway, it was my kind of place, and I think we all had fun.

There were tons of vendors in big white tents, and we wandered through it all.This is Sammy with her mom.

We saw lots of furry animals that make yarn, such as sheep, goats, alpacas, and lots of angora rabbits in every color you can imagine.

Towards the end, we found a place where children could do their own crafts. Here are Sammy and Claire at work.

Claire created several whimsical creatures. The girls were absorbed in the process for quite a while.

I will post the trip photos in dribs and drabs. I've been busy working on a small quilt with a tight deadline. so that's why I haven't posted more sooner.

Fiber festival in NY

I forgot to mention one of the highlights of our trip, a visit to a fiber festival in central NY, with Martine, Sammy, and friends Heather and Claire. It featured several tents full of vendors and exhibits, with yarn, roving, and lots of animals: sheep, angora rabbits, alpaca, llamas and goats. There was all sorts of yarn spinning equipment. Very interesting! One booth was about rug hooking and had a barrel of wool fabric scraps, so i stuffed a bag full. Perfect for quilting! Also I couldn't resist this pretty skein of yarn. I'm thinking hat and/or fingerless gloves. I took more photos of the fun.  This is just a preview.

Detritus from trip

Here is a pile of mementos from our recent trip to central NY and Boston.  It includes subway pass, tickets to the Museum of Fine Art in Boston, Colgate Inn info, etc. It was really fun, with a special birthday party, a trip on the Erie Canal, a visit to the Pilgrim and Roy collection of quilts, a ride on the MTA, and more. I will be posting photos in the coming weeks, so enjoy!

We're going to Quilt, Knit, Stitch in Portland!

I just found out this quilt is going to Portland, as part of the Coming Up Roses exhibit. I'm excited! "A Rose for your Nose? " is an oldie but a goodie from 1998, when it was a finalist in the Rhapsody of Roses IQA/QNM contest. It has already traveled to quilt festivals in Houston, Innsbruck, Paris and Lyon, as I recall. The quilt features my husband Dave and his budding hobby of gardening.

It's a thrill when my old quilts are revisited in new exhibits.

Modern Quilt Guild challenge

The latest Modern Quilt Guild Challenge is with Michael Miller fabric, and I made this modern outfit with it, for my granddaughter's new doll (patterns from the book "Rag Doll" by Corinne Crasbercu ). I made up the hat and bear skirt and adapted the shorts from the bloomer pattern in the book.

Oliver and S blog

I have recently discovered the Oliver and S blog. Since I recently finished the Croquet dress and have been raving about how much I love these patterns, I am so glad to know about the blog. Now I know there are other Oliver and S fans like myself. Here's a photo of the croquet dress in progress, that I made for my granddaughter. I recently mailed it off and hope she likes it.
