What I've been up to lately

Still on a sewing kick. I made this in a size 2 for Valentina in time for her second birthday. Oliver and S Jump Rope Dress, Kaffe Fasset Fabric.

Another pair of pants made with free Ethan Allen fabric from Sandy. Burda pattern 7058. I love them!

My "Green Dog with Orange Ball" quilt is published in the Dinner@8 book, Personal Iconography: Graffiti on Cloth. You can see this exhibit soon at the International Quilt Festival in Houston!

I don't think I've posted this art quilt yet. I made it for something called Bridges, an upcoming project for the Shannon exhibit space in Whittier. I call it "A Conversation." If selected, it will be part of a collaboration with artists, poets and musicians.

Yvonne tribute

This is the quilt I made for the Yvonne Porcella tribute, organized by Pokey Bolton. I call it "A Toast to Yvonne (And to Strong Women Everywhere)." It was inspired by the toasts made at Dinner at Eight dinners.

And here's a detail.

Quilt Festival in Chicago!

We flew to Chicago, and I got to visit the Quilt Festival there! The Dinner@8 Affinity exhibit was there, and here are a few photos. My quilt is called "Spring Comes Late."
I took a few photos of quilts in other exhibits that caught my eye.

I won a ribbon at my guild's show

I was surprised and pleased that my quilt "Flower Frenzy" won a ribbon: first place contemporary, individual! This happened at the  Flying Geese Quilt Show, aka Harvest of Quilts this past weekend at Soka University in Aliso Viejo.

This was the quilt I made for the Sizzix blog hop last Spring. All the flowers and leaves were made on a Sizzix die cutting machine.

Quilting Arts Magazine has Grandpa T!

I was flipping through the latest Quilting Arts Magazine, and I was thrilled to see that "Grandpa T and his Salad" was included in an article about Quilt Alliance's Animals We Love. Page 27, October-November issue. Woohoo, I am so surprised!

That's me at the Irvine Fine Art Center on Saturday, at the All Media reception. I am so appreciative that my small green piece was included in this very interesting show. Catch it if you can- it's on through October 24.

What I'm working on

As I said before, I am working on three quilts, two art and one baby. So here is a peek:

It still needs to be attached to the canvas frame. These are mostly Guatemalan fabrics from my centenarian friend Alpha, who passed away last year at 101. OMG, this woman had quite a stash!

And these are blocks for Warren and Cia's baby. I will be making several more blocks. Windmill blocks, template given to me years ago by my friend Lynda.

The address is 14321 Yale Avenue, Irvine, California.

Of cats and things unspoken

So I recently finished one quilt that I can't discuss, and also began another one that I can't talk about (on the left). In between quilts, I sewed that dress for Sammy and knitted that tiny sweater for another little sweety-to-be. And this little kitty is underway, because my granddaughter is obsessed with cats. I already made her one in greens. Anyway, I'm showing you this because I can't talk about the other, bigger things.

Yarn bomb, and what I'm up to

I saw this beautiful yarn bomb at the Lab in Costa Mesa. Had lunch at the Gypsy Den with a buddy. It is the coolest place to visit!

I have been very busy with art quilt projects. I just finished a quilt for the Quilt Alliance. Can I show it yet? The theme was Animals We Love, and I chose my desert tortoise, Grandpa T, even though I also love my dog and my cats.

My project for the Sizzix blog hop is all finished. My turn will be on April 9, but different artists will be showing off their flowery Sizzix creations all that week.

And I am hard at work on yet another quilt. It's a little freaky because I've been making "components" but have been nervous about the entire look. Today is the first day I have felt encouraged that I am on the right track. Yay!

12 by 12's

Here is the wall of 12 by 12's at Joanell's exhibit at the Unitarian Church in Long Beach. I hear they are coming down in a few days.  Can you see mine? It was nice of her to include us in her exhibit.

Joanell's exhibit

I am so behind in posting. Here are three pieces I whipped out especially for an exhibit that is currently going on in Long Beach. It's a mostly solo show by Joanell Connolly featuring her beautiful work, with an additional "wall" of 12x12 pieces by a few of her art quilt friends. It's at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Long Beach, 5450 E. Atherton St., Long Beach. I don't know how long the exhibit will hang, so see it while you can!

Artful apples and other small works

I've been making small pieces for an exhibit featuring my friend Joanell Connolly in March. They aren't done yet; when they are, they'll be mounted on black canvas frames. Also, I've been making more apples. I've been on a quest for the most artful apple. :-) Most of them will be sent off in the mail soon.

Contemporary Quilt Exhibit at Muzeo Museum in Anaheim

I am happy to say that two of my quilts are in an exhibit of contemporary quilts at the Muzeo Museum and Cultural Center in Anaheim. They will be on display November 15 - February 15. The address is 241 South Anaheim Blvd., Anaheim, California.

Terry Waldron pulled the collection together, and I am in good company. The artists include Terry Waldron, myself, Linda Anderson, Sherry Kleinman, Jamie Fingal, Sheila Frampton-Cooper, Joe Cunningham, Lura Schwarz Smith, and Kerby Smith.

My quilts at International Quilt Festival in Houston

I couldn't make it, but some of my friends were there. Two of my friends, Bonnie and Sherry, took these photos for me.

Thanks!

Quilters Newsletter Magazine

I found out that there will be a nice spread in the April-May issue of Quilters Newsletter about the Tasty! and Tasty Too! exhibits at the San Jose Museum of Quilts and Textiles. Two of my quilts, "Italia al Dente" and "Cubism Meets Baltimore," will be featured in the article. Yay! I have an advance copy PDF but can't figure out how to post it here. I will post a photo when I find a copy of the magazine.

In the meantime, here is a photo of "Cubism Meets Baltimore" hanging at Tasty Too!.
