Saffron is back
I am happy to have my quilt, "Saffron in the Park," back from its travels. It is hanging amongst my holiday decor.
This is the quilt that was part of the Dinner at 8 Reflections exhibit at Houston Quilt Festival. It also appeared in the October- November issue of Quilting Arts Magazine. It was inspired by photos that a friend took of Christo's Gates in Central Park.

Saffron in Quilting Arts!
I am happy to say that as of today I have obtained a copy of the October- November issue of Quilting Arts Magazine. "Saffron in the Park" is on page 45. I am excited!
It is part of an article about the Reflections exhibit which will debut in Houston soon. Jamie Fingal and Leslie Tucker Jenison curated this Dinner at 8 exhibit. Seven of the forty plus artists were in the article.

Interview on Dinner at Eight Blog
I have been remiss in not mentioning that I was interviewed for the Dinner at Eight blog, and the interview was posted on the 15th. You can still read it and all the other artists interviews. Go to http://dinnerateightartists.blogspot.com/
Scroll down to find my post. Here is a detail of my quilt for the Reflections exhibit. It is called "Saffon in the Park."

Quilt Accepted into Reflections
I was thrilled to learn that this quilt has been accepted by Dinner @ Eight Artists into the Reflections exhibit! It will go to quilt festivals in Houston and Chicago. It was inspired by the temporary art installation of the Gates in Central Park in 2005, created by the fabulous artists Christo and Jeanne-Claude.
Here is a detail. I call it "Saffron in the Park." My friend Becky Milano went to see the Gates and took photos. She allowed me to use her photos as inspiration. Also, around that time another friend, Rose Hughes, gave me a swatch of Gates fabric, which I included in the quilt.

Two quilts at Quilt Festival in Houston
My quilts get to go to interesting places.
"Grocery Shopping With Sammy" is at Quilt Festival in Houston this week, in the "An Exquisite Moment" special exhibit, curated by Dinner at Eight Artists..
Detail of my husband in the background.
I also have a quilt in the "What's for Dinner?" special exhibit, also curated by Dinner at Eight Artists.
It's called "Ravioli di Verdura." It's a cool looking exhibit, with the quilts placed on a long table. How fun is that!?
If you are lucky enough to be at Houston Quilt Festival, I hope you will see these quilts!

What's for dinner quilt, plus another sitting dog
I am excited that my quilt entry for the "What's for Dinner" special exhibit got accepted. Mine depicted ravioli, which was very fun to make out of fabric. I don't know if it's okay to show my quilt; I'll ask first. The exhibit will debut at Quilt Festival in Houston; I will let you know if it goes elsewhere.
I have started a new quilt, made with the marbled fabric I posted about recently. It's different from my typical quilts, and I like it! There will be photos when it is further along.
In the meantime, I can show you my latest dog creation. This is my fourth one!
Like the dogs that came before it, I am giving it away. It will probably go in a Christmas-themed basket that will be auctioned off at the Flying Geese Quilt Show in September.
I like these dogs so much, maybe because the face is a little like my dachshund, Ginger.

An Exquisite Moment quilt
This is old news, but I was on my trip when I found out that my quilt, "Grocery Shopping with Sammy," was accepted into the "An Exquisite Moment" special exhibit by Dinner at Eight Artists. It will go to the Long Beach International Quilt Festival in August and I'm not sure yet where else. I am very excited to have my quilt included in this wonderful exhibit.
I didn't have an image to share when I was on my trip, but now I finally have time to share it with you.
It depicts my granddaughter when I was grocery shopping with her at Wegman's in Central NY. My husband is hand embroidered in the background.
Detail of my husband in the background. He has been in three quilts of mine, that I can think of. Lucky him! ;-) He's wearing a hat in two of them. He has a moustache in all of them.
As long as I'm sharing things, here is the knitted cap I made on my trip to the UK! I knitted on planes, on trains, and once in a while in hotel rooms. I started it and finished the whole thing on the trip. It was a challenge. Every single row was different! The design is by Alana Dakos, which appears in her beautiful new book, Botanical Knits. Check out the book, it's really wonderful. I can't wait to try some of the other designs.

'rituals' exhibit news!
I am happy to say that the 'Rituals' exhibit, curated by Jamie and Leslie of Dinner at Eight Artists, was well received in Houston. IQA has invited the exhibit to show in Chicago, too, late June 2013. That's my "Rituals" quilt above, entitled "Photo Booth Hijinks." It was inspired by a photo booth strip of me and my husband, circa 1970. My first Spoonflower order.
The biggest news is that the 'Rituals' exhibit will now also go to Open European Quilt Championships in the Netherlands, May 3-5 2013. It's so wonderful when my quilts get to travel to interesting places!
