What I've been up to lately

Still on a sewing kick. I made this in a size 2 for Valentina in time for her second birthday. Oliver and S Jump Rope Dress, Kaffe Fasset Fabric.

Another pair of pants made with free Ethan Allen fabric from Sandy. Burda pattern 7058. I love them!

My "Green Dog with Orange Ball" quilt is published in the Dinner@8 book, Personal Iconography: Graffiti on Cloth. You can see this exhibit soon at the International Quilt Festival in Houston!

I don't think I've posted this art quilt yet. I made it for something called Bridges, an upcoming project for the Shannon exhibit space in Whittier. I call it "A Conversation." If selected, it will be part of a collaboration with artists, poets and musicians.

My quilts at International Quilt Festival in Houston

I couldn't make it, but some of my friends were there. Two of my friends, Bonnie and Sherry, took these photos for me.

Thanks!

Saffron in Quilting Arts!

I am happy to say that as of today I have obtained a copy of the October- November issue of Quilting Arts Magazine. "Saffron in the Park" is on page 45. I am excited!

It is part of an article about the Reflections exhibit which will debut in Houston soon. Jamie Fingal and Leslie Tucker Jenison curated this Dinner at 8 exhibit. Seven of the forty plus artists were in the article.

Works underway, done, and on the road

A new dress for Sammy is underway. It's another Oliver and S pattern. This one is the Play Date Dress.

Just finished this sweater for my granddaughter. I hope she likes it! She just started pre-K today, going on a real school bus. Pattern from Berroco Comfort/Book for Girls.

And lastly, "Rose For Your Nose" is going to Houston Quilt Festival! So that means I will have three quilts there. It would be nice to go, but we have other travel plans at the same time.

Quilting Arts

I found out a few days ago that the quilt I made for the Reflections exhibit in Houston will be included in an article in the Fall Quilting Arts Magazine! The name of the quilt is "Saffron in the Park, " and it was inspired by photos my friend Becky Milano took of Christo's Gates in Central Park. This is a detail.

What's for Dinner?

I am happy to say that I will have a quilt in the "What's for Dinner" exhibit at Quilt Festival in Houston. This is the second quilt of mine that will be there. This one is called "Terinaki Beef-on-a-Stick." That's how my son pronounced teriyaki.

"The Space Between" going to Cinci!

"The Space Between," a Dinner at Eight special exhibit that went to Long Beach and Houston Quilt Festivals last year, will be going to Spring Quilt Market in Cincinnati, too! At least a partial exhibit will be going, and my quilt will be part of it. The show runs April 13-15.

Here's a detail of my quilt, "Between the Air Conditioner and the House," the space where my desert tortoise likes to hang out.

I'm so excited that my quilt was accepted into the "Rituals" special exhibit, curated by Dinner at 8 Artists! It will go to the Long Beach Quilt Festival in July and the Houston Quilt Festival in the fall.

The entire list of accepted quilts is on the Dinner at Eight blog: http://dinnerateightartists.blogspot.com/

Here's my quilt, entitled "Photo Booth Hijinks."

Quilts out and about, and finished projects

It's been a couple of weeks, but this is my "Summertime Cat" at PIQF, taken by Terry. It's part of the travelling exhibit Noble Seasons/Summer. My "Mille Fiore" was also there.
My quilt "It's Your Fault" is currently in Houston at Quilt Festival, as part of the "Beneath the Surface" exhibit. You can see it on the far left of this photo taken by Jamie.

I'm almost finished with a small donation quilt, featuring a house  and a flag. I'll post it when it's finished. I'm also working on my Noble Seasons "Autumn" quilt.

I sent this off recently for Samantha, and I hear that she is wearing it. Hats are fun!

Ditto on this little alpaca number. The yarn was hand-dyed; I purchased it at the farmer's market where Martine and Jack sell their wares.

Here is the hat in progress, with a peek at what the yarn looked like before it gets knitted up. It's a mysterious melange in a ball, but it transforms into neat little stripes. Cool, huh?

Beneath the Surface

I've already told you about Beneath the Surface, a special exhibit that I will have a quilt in. ("It's Your Fault")The big news is that it has sponsors, for both quilt festivals in Long Beach and Houston! Brother and Moores Sewing are the sponsors for Long Beach, and Misty Fuse (my favorite fusible!) for Houston.

Also, all the artists in Beneath the Surface were asked to answer some questions about themselves, and they've been posted daily on the Dinner at Eight blog. My set of questions and answers will appear on May 15, Saturday. All the interviews have been interesting, so take a look!
